Giuseppe Guarneri “filius Andreae”, Cremona, c.1715-20

It was the creative mastery of Giuseppe Guarneri that served as a bridge from the Amati style violins of his father, Andrea, to the genius creations of his son Giuseppe “del Gesù”. In fact, the violins of “filius Andreae” share characteristics of both generations, depending on which point in his career he made them.

This late example made c.1715-20 has a strong character and a rustic style of craftsmanship. Its sound combines the elegant beauty of the previous generation with the formidable presence of late Guarneri violins.
