Pietro Antonio Dalla Costa, Treviso, 1749

Although little biographical information has been discovered about Dalla Costa, we know that he was active in the city of Treviso north of Venice in the 19th century and died there in 1770. He is a well-known Veneto maker who, interestingly, followed the style of the Brothers Amati as was occasionally mentioned on his labels. He is perhaps most famous for a violin that was in the possession of Mozart and that is now exhibited at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

This pure and splendid example bears an original label together with the maker’s signature inscription on the wood alongside it.
