Viola by

Ansaldo Poggi
Bologna, 1965

Ansaldo Poggi studied violin and art, but his career in both fields was interrupted by his military service during World War I. After the war, at age 28, Poggi went to Zurich to study with the famous violin maker Giuseppe Fiorini, who had come from Poggi’s own hometown of Bologna. Poggi had a long and productive career back in Bologna where he died in 1984 at the age of 91.

We have recently sold several Poggi instruments, including two other violas, and we are happy to offer this latest acquisition, which remains in mint condition and has a back length of 42 centimeters (16 ½ inches).
