The cellos of William Forster are extremely well regarded for their full and complex tonal qualities that compare well with Italian instruments of the time. Forster’s cellos have been favored by many artists both past and present including notable musicians in our circle today such as Jules Eskin, principal of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the award-winning young soloist Alisa Weilerstein.
This excellent cello dated 1804 is one of the best we have seen. It is recorded as having sold in Oxford and is listed as one of the best 16 cellos by this maker. It remains in a very pure state and is of a compact size like most of Forster’s cellos.
