Cello by
Lorenzo Ventapane
Naples c.1820
It is generally assumed that Lorenzo Ventapane was a pupil of Raffaele & Antonio Gagliano, as his instruments are quite similar to theirs in model and style.
This exceptional cello is a bold example. It is made from especially picturesque wood, remains in near mint condition, and retains a rare original label, which makes it suitable for the most astute collector. Nonetheless, it is a proven concert instrument, having been the property of a quartet player of the first rank for some time.
