
Humberto Nicasio
Mexican bow maker and restorer, Humberto Nicasio graduated with honors from the Violin Making School of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Queretaro, Mexico. He has taken courses and workshops in Mexico, Spain, the Netherlands, and the United States.
Humberto started making baroque bows during a course taught by Marie-Eve Geeraert in Mexico City. He has focused on baroque and renaissance instrument making at Escuela de Violeros de Zaragoza. He studied the baroque bow making techniques of Luis Emilio Rodriguez Carrington in The Hague.
In the United States, he has attended the Violin Society of America’s summer programs at Oberlin College and Learning Trade Secrets, focusing on modern bow making and restoration. In these programs, he has received instruction from David Forbes, Jerry Passewicz, Matt Wehling, Peter Oxley, Rodney Mohr, and David Orlin.
He studied music with the Faculty of Music at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) focusing on the historically informed performance of cello and viola da gamba. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Geomatics Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at UNAM.
In 2023, Humberto moved to Boston to work as a full-time restorer and bowmaker. Looking to further develop his career and improve his skills and knowledge, he joined Reuning & Son Violins in 2025.
